My Favorite Blog Posts of the Week!

1.  I admire AJ Luck’s honesty, blogging at Write Where it Hurts, in “The Theory of Resolution Lists”: “Each year I set out to write “the list”, but no words reach the page. It’s like the enemy of my soul beats me to the punch. His list is far worse than a mere resolution reminder. Instead, it’s an ongoing list of my “un” accomplishments.”

And I appreciate her reminder to listen for God’s list for me in 2013 (rather than constructing my own list of soon-to-be failures!)

2.  Heather Kopp’s “A Beautiful Day to Hit Bottom” is excellent in its own right, and the comments are superb!  Tom explores two types of “hitting bottom” that are spot-on, and Charise asks a question about the necessity of spiritual experience in recovery that triggers a blog-post length response from Heather. So it’s basically a 2-fer!

3.  Robin Dance, blogging at  SimpleMom, focuses on “The Importance of Being Current.” This urgency to not leave important things unsaid has all new meaning to me, as I just lost a beloved colleague this week and came far too close to losing my father.

4.  Laura Hyers blogging at Write Where it Hurts says “for 2013, I want a mindset, not a marketing strategy” in “When You Want Something Different This Year.”  She points out how easily webuy things or services based on the person we want to be”...a truth my bookshelves and spare bedroom and garage can testify to all-too-well!

The “something different” I want this year is a minimalist mindset...one that celebrates the more-than-abundant “enough” I already have rather than reaching for more in the false hope that stuff will somehow make me “more.”

5.  I love Wendy Blight’s guilt-free reminder -- in today’s Proverbs 31 Ministries devotional  “God is Waiting” -- that God is ready and waiting with life and health when we return to His Word, no matter how long it’s been!

6.  Kathi Lipp’s question “How Organized Do You Want to be This Time Next Year?” leads to a well-timed “Use it or Lose it!” challenge.  I love (and cringe at) these honest questions: “How much money have I wasted in “replacing” things because I didn’t have an easy way to find them? How much time have I wasted going to the store to “replace” those things? How many times have I not contributed financially to a cause I believe in because I’m short on funds (from re-buying things)?

7.  I absolutely love Patty Newbold’s marriage blog Assume Love. I read the closing line of “The Worst That Can Happen” aloud to Daniel, Annemarie, and Jonathon, and each time we laughed uproariously.

It starts:  “Or you can sit and simmer until…”  (I really hope I’ve piqued your interest; it’s a short post with a great point and killer ending!)

8.  While Seth Godin’s “Writer’s Block and the Drip” (which is a great partner to last week’s #1!) is specifically about writing, I think the power of “the drip” applies to any area of life.

9.  In “What it Really Means to Get in the Best Shape of Your Life”, Emily Freeman looks beyond the shape of our thighs to the and asks some poignant questions about the shape of our lives.

10.  Ann Voskamp offers some beautiful tools for replacing “baditude” with God’s word and gratitude in “The One Habit God Really Wants for Your New Year”.

Last year’s scripture memory materials focused on Jesus’ sermon on the mount, and this year’s focus on Romans 1, 8, and 12. The blog post is breath-taking, and the resources amazing!
