Our December Baby
20 years ago, instead of celebrating the baby born in Bethlehem, we were praying for a baby to not be born.
Not yet, at least.
I'd gone into pre-term labor 12 weeks prior to my due date and spent 8 weeks on anti-contraction medication.
When my doctor took me off the Terbutaline on December 11, Jonathon wasted no time. I went into full-fledged labor within two days.
The night I went into labor, I was overcome with panic: "How can I do this to Annemarie? Having a baby brother is going to ruin her life!"
A week later, when Jonathon was discharged from the NICU Annemarie met him for the first time. She took one look at him, grabbed the book she'd been reading, and dropped it on his head. My mother reached out in protest, but I understood.
Annemarie was giving her new baby brother a gift.
The most precious gift she could imagine: a book.
She then proceeded to "read" it to him.
All my worries were needless.
Jonathon now stands 6 feet tall and sports a most impressive beard:
He and Annemarie are the best of friends.
Instead of "ruining" her life, he was the best gift I could possibly have given her.
But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear Him,
on those who hope in His unfailing love.
Psalm 33:18
Speaking of Gifts and Love...
Last week, a huge box arrived addressed to me, but I had no idea what it was. I was almost certain it was a mistake until I opened it and remembered, "Oh yeah! My stuff from DaySpring!"
Since I spent 31 days in October blogging about having "A Holiday-Ready Heart," the "Love Came Down" theme is poetically perfect for where I'm at this year.
I've already set up the Advent Tabletop Devotional on the table next to my morning quiet time chair.
Since it's on sale right now for just $5.99 (60% off!) I've ordered another one for my classroom. The daily verse combined with the questions will be a great way to start each class!
The Love Came Down 12" Giving Platter can easily be used as a dinner plate...
...or stacked with give-away goodies!
The FTC wants me to be sure to tell you that I received these products for free from DaySpring in exchange for a review.
But if you know me at all, you don't really need me to assure you that the opinions I express here are all my own, do you?!?
The "Love Came Down" line is a beautiful, tangible way to re-focus on the best gift possible.
